EAST GRAND FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT #4 PO Box 2967 - 77601 U.S. Hwy. 40 Winter Park, CO 80482 970.726.5824 March 8 2010 #10 March Snows: Heavy spring snows can make driving difficult and stress snowpack causing AVALANCHES. Slash Burns are going again with the weather change. Permits are required and if needed tickets will be issued for ignoring the requirements. With proper pile construction, good smoke clearing weather, and correct timing piles can be efficiently burned. Cold Weather Alert!! Pipes can take a lot but repeated freezing will weaken and eventualy split any pipe system. Use extreme care when thawing-open flames have burned down many homes and buildings. Also check out your neighbors who may have lost there heat and are freezing up-which could affect you. Signs are----meters shut off, frosted over windows, and of course water running. Units in foreclosure have had their utilities-gas and electric shut off for non-payment. ***************************************************************************************** FROM GRAND COUNTY DNR---- The day has come---we have opened burn season! At this time we do not have snow coverage county-wide so we have a “condition” of 3” of snow required in the area to be allowed to burn. At this time that means anyone west of HSS will not be allowed to burn as there isn’t sufficient snow there. But Grand Lake, Granby and the Fraser Valley all have sufficient snow coverage and burning will be allowed on good air quality/smoke dispersal days. So be checking the link provided on the county home page to see the daily list of burners! Any questions or problems, please call us. For Dispatch: if you get phone calls, please be sure to let them know to call us not you! Thanks everyone, Amy Sidener Natural Resource Management Specialist Grand County Division of Natural Resources PO Box 9 Granby, CO 80446 (970)887-0745 asidener@co.grand.co.us ********************************************************************************** Although Slash Burn Season is officially open burning will only be allowed on days with adequate smoke dispersal and a minimum of 3 inches of snow on the ground with the clearance of the Grand County Department of Natural Resources. SNOW! But the light fuels are dead and dried out and can be very flamable. Be careful with campfires or small cleanup fires to avoid escapes. If you are hand feeding a campfire-make sure you only have one! The Upper Fraser CWPP is published and available. We have a link to it from our website. If unable to download -a limited supply of CD's with the UFV CWPP will be available at East Grand FPD HQ Station. There is a copy at the Fraser Library as well. This is a lengthy document with many technical sections. Burn restrictions limiting open fires without a permit to 3 ft diameter with 2 ft fuel height are now in effect. Town of Winter Park does not allow open fires, without permit. There are no active emergencies in the Fraser Valley at this time. If there were we would keep you updated and as informed as possible by directing you to- www.gcemergency.com website for information on Emergencies in Grand County Please close this page to return to the EAST GRAND FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT #4 Homepage
