EAST GRAND FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT #4 PO Box 2967 - 77601 U.S. Hwy. 40 Winter Park, CO 80482 970.726.5824 October 5 2011 #38 Leaves are going-had a little moisture but still very dry. Remember winds come up quickly and even a small campfire can be trouble! Things can dry out quickly-a little sun and some wind and fires can get a sart with help from careless disposal of smoking materials or fireworks. A cigarette or bottle rocket can smolder undetected in duff or chips to ignite when dry winds pump them up. Please be carefull! ****************************************************************************************** Slash Burning Season OVER with THOUSANDS of piles burned this winter. Although we have snow cover and cold temps the west end is drying out, always be careful! ********************************************************************************8******* COLD WEATHER INFO: BATTERY "DIGITAL" THERMOSTATS-when the battery dies there is no backup to call for heat. CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES EVERY FALL and/or have a back up mechanical thermostat. Subzero temperatures=frozen pipes---use care in thawing and watch out for burst pipes, know where your shutoffs are located. ****************************************************************************************** Winter weather is here; check your vehicles tires, windshield wipers, emergency equipment. ******************************** The Church's Park Fire is 100% contained and has been turned over to the Hot Sulphur US Forest Service District. The fire will be monitored by local USFS crews until declared out. At the staffing high point there were over 250 personnel involved with the fire including the base camp set up at the Fraser Ball Fields. Total costs to date include approximately $1.5 million in USFS and BLM costs and $110,000 in local costs which were mostly contributed staff time and the value of Fire Districts, County Road and Bridge, EMS and Office of Emergency Management, Sheriff Office, and other county department’s efforts. The East Grand Fire District greatly appreciates the assistance provided by the Grand FPD, Hot Sulphur/Parshall FPD, Kremmling FPD, and Grand Lake-FPD’s Volunteer Firefighters as well as our own Volunteers of East Grand. ******************************** A major concern-wet ground and green trees taking out powerlines during windy days. The unprotected trees are causing some real issues including fires. Removal of hazard trees is the best, underground powerlines the most expensive. *************************************************************** Be careful with campfires or small cleanup fires to avoid escapes. If you are hand feeding a campfire-make sure you only have one! ************************************************************* The Upper Fraser CWPP is published and available. We have a link to it from our website. If unable to download -a limited supply of CD's with the UFV CWPP will be available at East Grand FPD HQ Station. There is a copy at the Fraser Library as well. This is a lengthy document with many technical sections. *********************************************************************** There are no active emergencies in the Fraser Valley at this time. If there were we would keep you updated and as informed as possible by directing you to- www.gcemergency.com website for information on Emergencies in Grand County ******************************************************************* Please close this page to return to the EAST GRAND FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT #4 Homepage
